Because the Cayman S is the triumphant successor to the traditional concept of central engine, with a low centre of gravity and great nimbleness, capable of reliably offering an amazing performance.
The onlooker notices at first glance that the Cayman S is unmistakably a Porsche – the constant interplay between concave and convex forms conveys the idea of dynamism in its pure state.
The Cayman S goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and has a top speed of 275 km/h. Its six-speed gearbox, featuring a short-throw action, perfectly transmits the engineπs high power. In addition, the Tiptronic S version is also available upon request: this model offers the option of choosing between automatic and manual by using the rocker controls on the steering wheel. The comfort offered is remarkable and gear change times are swift.
The Cayman S chassis ensures handling without compromise thanks to the front and rear McPherson-strut suspension. The track is generous but the axle – sportingly rigid and direct by nature – makes the difference, thanks also to the extremely resistant body. The axle is complemented by the variable-transmission steering. The result is a direct driving experience with almost surgical-precision steering. The large bold air vents dominate the face of the car, endowing the front with a decidedly daring personality. The round fog-lamps and side lights are incorporated within the external air vents, thus creating a balanced visual identity. The titanium-co lour edges in the front spoiler reduce the load on the front axle. Asymmetrical head lights, bumpers and bonnet build an overall dynamic image. The design of the bonnet and front bodywork stretches the nose of the Cayman S forwards, accentuating its aggressiveness. The highly expressive design is also found in the side view and interior: the pronounced curves of the front and rear bumpers, together with the shape of the doors, emphasise the wing lines. The rear is marked by flowing elongated lines harmoniously continuing the style introduced by the vigorous line of the front frame. The Cayman S also ensures great safety for its occupants: the side airbags for the driver and passenger seats are available as standard features, with separate airbags for the head and the torso – providing greater protection in the event of side impact.
Smooth, well-defined surfaces dominate the interior and are accentuated by Alu-look and leather elements, such as the wheel and the gear stick. The standard seats offer great comfort and good side-area storage: there is no shortage of compartments in the doors, dashboard and near the engine cover. The front luggage space has a 150-litre capacity, while the rear one (divided into luggage area and object compartments) comes to some 260 litres.
